We will continue our planner “Tell Me a Story” with a study of the Gingerbread Man”.

Activities

• Read the different versions of The Gingerbread Man
• Compare and contrast these versions using a ven diagram
• Story board map
• 5 senses book about the Gingerbread Man
• Decorate and eat a gingerbread man during Art-a-la-Carte
• Math-numbers addition and subtraction

Information

• We will have a performance by Main Street Theater, Stuart Little, this Thursday at 8:30. The performance will be here at Mark Twain for all Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Please send $2.50 to cover the cost of the performance by Thursday morning.
• I want to thank Rebecca Kelly for coming in and teaching the September and October Art-a-la-Carte lessons. I also want to thank Blythe Grossman and Rachel Jacobs for teaching the November one. Tarsy Dondlinger will teach our December one this Friday. I greatly appreciate the lessons these parents have done.
• I will be in Baltimore attending a PYP conference with 5 other teachers the 10th and 11th. Ms. Debbie Medrano, Ms. Filis’ sister will be my substitute both days.
  We will have our holidays around the world celebration on the 15th & 16th. We will start at 8:15 and end at 10:30 both days. I will need several volunteers both days. If you can help see Alva. We will rotate through all 6 Kindergarten classes to learn about the following holiday; Chinese New Year-Maupin, Christmas-Eddleman, Kwanzaa-Prater, Ramadan-Mouftah, Hanukah- Fromén, Las Posadas-Martinez.
• We will have our Holiday Party (Snowman party) Thursday, December 17th at 1:00. You are welcome to come and join in the festivities. If you would like to help see Alva Allen.
• Friday, December 18th will be movie day and the last day of classes for our students. There will be no extended day, all students must be picked up by 2:50.

• Tenemos una obra de Stuart Little que vendrá este jueves 3 de diciembre a Mark Twain del teatro Main Street. Esta obra es para los estudiantes de Kindergarten y primer grado. Por favor mande $2.50 para cubrir el costo de esta obra.

We will continue our Tell me a Story planner this week. Our focus will be on The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will also read other classic stories and finish with The Three Little Pigs.

Activities

• Each child will complete a page “My favorite part was…”
• Students will create own Billy Goats Gruff story board.

Thanksgiving Activities

• In preparation for our grade level feast, we will make “We are thankful for....” place mats, hats for the feast, and many other fun projects.
• Included in the brown folder is a fun turkey project for you to complete at home! Please return the decorated turkey by Friday November 20th.
  InformationOur Thanksgiving grade level Feast will be about 1:45 on Tuesday November 24th. Parents are invited to help set up and serve beginning at 1:00 that day.

Actividades del Día de acción de gracias

• En preparación para la fiesta de Kindergarten del día de acción de gracias haremos una mantilla “Yo doy gracias por…”, sombrero para la fiesta, y otras actividades divertidos.
• Incluido en la carpeta café estará un guajalote para un proyecto de la familia. Por favor regrese el guajalote disfrazado para este viernes 20 de noviembre.

Nuestra fiesta de Kindergarten del Día de Acción de gracias será como 1:45 el martes 24 de noviembre. Los padres están invitados para ayudar a la 1:00.

Mystery Reader

We had our first Mystery Reader. The clues were great and everyone loved it.

The Three Little Pigs/The Three Bears

November 9th-13th

This begins our third planner, "Tell me a story". We will focus on many different types of stories. We first study classic stories.

Activities
· We will read; The Three Little Pigs, Big Bad Wolf, The True story of the Three Little Pigs, The Three Little Javelina's, The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, and many others.
· We will dramatize the classic version.
· The students will create their own storybook.
· We will read, The Three Bears, and Goldie this week.
· Dramatize the classic version, and students will make their own 3-d version of the bear’s house.
· LDC all week, no journal.
· Writers words...día...ella...y… (day, her,and).

Information
· We are having a performance by the improvisational group, The Pied Pipers tomorrow, Thursday Nov. 12th at 8:05. They base their show on various children's literature. Please send $1 to help cover their transportation costs, as they are a non-profit group.
· Next week will see a performance of Hansel and Gretel by Houston Grand Opera. No charge for this, Thank you PTO!
· We need a few playground items. We would like to have jump ropes, hoola hoops, sidewalk chalk, Chinese jump ropes, and anything else you might think of. Please help if you can. Ms. Fromén’s class will be collecting other items for our classes to share.
· Save the Date-Tues. Nov. 24th about 1:00 will be the Kindergarten Feast. Parents are invited to help. Alva will be sending an e-mail about this. My many thanks!More information to come.

Empezamos la unidad nueva de “Decirme un cuento”. El enfoque será en diferentes tipos de cuentos. Primero estaremos estudiando sobre los cuentos clásicos de las hadas.

· Leeremos; Los tres cochinitos, La verdadera historia de los tres cochinitos, Las tres jabalinas, Los tres lobitos y el cerdo feroz y malo, y muchos más.
· Actuaremos el cuento clásico.
· Los estudiantes harán su propio libro.
· Leeremos Ricitos de Oro y los tres osos.
· Dramatizar este cuento clásico y hacer una tabla individual de 3-D de la casa de los tres osos para actuarlo en la casa.

Información
· Tendremos una obra por un grupo de improvisación, “The Pied Piper”, mañana jueves, 12 de noviembre, a 8:05. Este grupo basa sus obras en varios cuentos de niños. Por favor mande $1.00 para ayudar a cubrir los gastos de transportación, porque este grupo es uno de empresa no lucrativa.
· La próxima semana tendremos una obra de “Hansel y Gretal” por la Gran Opera de Houston. Esta obra es gratis gracias al PTO!
· Necesitamos algunos juguetes para jugar afuera. Nos gustaría tener cuerdas, hoola hoops, tiza de banqueta, y cualquier otra cosa que crean que nos podremos utilizar afuera. La clase de la Srta. Fromén estará colectando otras cosas para compartir con nuestra clase.

· NNAT testing will be Wednesday, November 4th. Make sure your child gets a good night sleep and a good breakfast.
· Wednesday, November 4th is early dismissal. All students get out at 12:15. This is an afternoon for parent-conferences. If you would like a conference with me please sign the sheet outside our door. Report cards go home this day.

We had so much fun at the Children’s Museum. Some of our students were taped by Telemundo. It will appear on Channel 48 October 30 at 5:00 and 10:00 p.m.

Project Week

“All About Me” Project Week
September 29 - October 2

This week students will complete several projects as culminating activities related to our “All About Me” planner. We will finish off our planner with the “Me” Museum next week.

Activities
-Body Tracing-Each student will have their body traced then they will paint their tracing to look as close to them as possible.
-Me/We class book-each students will work with a partner to complete their page for the class book. They will draw and label things they like on one side of the page and on the other side they will draw and label things they both like.
-I Can Be Me Individual class book.

-We will also finish several projects that we did not get to last week.
-LDC all week. No journal.

Information
Wednesday, September 30th – Fieldtrip to the Children’s Museum from 8:30-12:30. Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch.
Our class pizza party will be Thursday October 1st in the Mark Twain pavilion. Bring your family and I hope to see you there.
“Me” museum Wednesday, October 7th from 8:00-9:00. Please make plans to attend this great morning. More information to come.

Semana del proyecto “Todo sobre de mí”
29 de septiembre - 2 de octubre

Esta semana completaremos varios proyectos para terminar las actividades sobre el tema “Todo sobre de mi” Terminaremos esta unidad la próxima semana con el “Museo de mi”.

Actividades
-Trazando el cuerpo-Cada estudiante tendrá su cuerpo trazado y luego lo pintaran para que se mire como ellos.
-Un libro de la clase en ingles de “Me/We”, Yo/Nosotros-cada estudiante trabajará con un compañero para completar una pagina. Dibujaran y escribirán las cosas que les gusta a el/ella. Después voltean la página y harán lo mismo pero esta vez que les gusta a los dos.
-Los estudiantes harán su propio libro “¡Yo puedo ser yo!”
-También terminaremos varios proyectos que no terminamos la semana pasada.
-LDC toda la semana, no habrá diario.

Información
-Excursión al museo de los niños será el miércoles, 30 de septiembre desde 8:30-12:30. Todos necesitan traer su lonche.
-Nuestra fiesta de la clase será el jueves, 1 de octubre. Traigan su familia y espero verlos allí.
-Nuestro museo de “Mí” será el 7 de octubre, miércoles, desde las
8:00 a.m. – 9:00. Por favor hagan planes de asistir esta gran mañana.
